AI car diagnosis — your questions
Quick answers about how the AI works, what it costs, and how accurate the estimates are.
Can AI really tell me what's wrong with my car?
+
I can give you a strong shortlist. I take your symptom description, any photos you upload, and your vehicle's full DVSA MOT history and run a Claude AI analysis over the lot. You get the likeliest issues with cost estimates, urgency, and how confident I am about each one. I'm a guide for what to ask a mechanic about — not a substitute for a hands-on inspection.
Is the AI car diagnosis free?
+
Yes — completely free for drivers. No sign-up, no card, no usage limits. CarOkay is paid for by the garages on the platform, not by the drivers using the diagnostic tool.
What kinds of car problems can the AI diagnose?
+
Anything you can describe in plain English: warning lights, knocking or grinding noises, vibrations, smells (burning, fuel, sweet coolant), poor performance, hard starting, visible leaks, or damage. You can also upload up to three photos — handy for tyre wear, brake disc damage, fluid leaks, and warning-light dashboards.
Does the AI know my car's history?
+
If you pop in a UK registration, yes. I pull your full DVSA MOT record — every test, advisory, failure, mileage reading and tester note — and weigh it against your symptoms. That lets me spot patterns (like a recurring brake advisory) that a one-off symptom checker would miss.
How accurate are the repair cost estimates?
+
Estimates use UK 2026 independent-garage rates and leave out main-dealer premiums (which typically run 30–50% higher). Real quotes vary by region and car — always confirm with your chosen garage before authorising any work. Treat the estimate as a fair-price sanity check, not a quote.
Is my registration or photo data stored?
+
Registrations are checked against the DVSA MOT API and not stored against your identity. Photos are sent to the AI for analysis and discarded straight after — they're not kept on our servers or used to train any model.
